Dining and clubbing in Barcelona often happens in the same space. Restaurant-bar-club combinations are the hottest spots at night, while an alternative may be a boldly designed lounge or a hip wine bar. In a city obsessed with style, almost everything looks and feels special, but the places really worth checking out are the following:
Cata 1.81
Oenophiles will want to check out this tapas and wine bar that offers more than 250 wines by the bottle and 25 by the glass. Set in a modern interior, it also serves small portions of Catalan cuisine with the wine, although it's the mini-hamburgers that seem to be everyone's favorites.
Lika Lounge
This high-design lounge has low lighting and a VIP area decorated in marvellous white leather to create a sophisticated ambiance as you chill out with a martini or champagne. The creative drinks are served at the bar covered in ice, and are quite expensive but good.
Club Catwalk
The name says it all. This is a place for the fashionable to sashay through the doors and move their bodies all night to house music, or on a separate hip hop and R&B dancefloor. In between they sit on canopied sofas, as famous international DJs take over the music.
Shoko Lounge Club
Eat at the restaurant and wait until midnight when it becomes a spectacular lounge club with a soundtrack of R&B, electro, and house. Famous international DJs, fashion parties, and other events are extra attractions, as is the décor made of black, gold, and red colors. It's an energetic place, made even better during the summer when you can chill out at the terrace.
Opium Mar
This restaurant and club takes advantage of its locating in front of Barcelona's main beach by offering a great terrace where you can watch the sun set. In the daytime it's a restaurant serving Mediterranean cuisine, while at night it turns into a luxurious lounge and club that often hosts theme nights.
Kama Lounge
This is another restaurant-lounge-club but serving Indian nouvelle cuisine to a cosmopolitan crowd looking for a more relaxing space. They sit on the sofas by the walls or by the fabulous bar, where you can ask for one of the best fruit cocktails in the city.
The Sutton Club
Opened for a few years now, this huge club remains one of the city's most fashionable. Twenty and thirty-somethings flirt on the grand dancefloor in a see and be seen atmosphere, in a party that lasts well into the morning.
Otto Zutz
One of Barcelona's trendiest clubs, Otto Zutz parties until 6AM and the dancefloor is always crowded. This is a place for supermodel wannabes to strut their stuff on the dancefloor to the sounds of hip hop, R&B, and deep house.
Elephant Club
Featuring a garden with colonial-style furnishings, the Elephant Club takes you East in this converted mansion. Huge bronze elephants and bamboo bushes complete the décor, surrounding a fashion-conscious crowd who likes to pay big bucks to socialize with other beautiful people. The music styles range from R&B to House.
CDLC - Carpe Diem Lounge
This exclusive super club is for the rich and the famous who stay at the Hotel Arts nearby, and for those who want to be like them. It has a restaurant facing the sea, and those simply wanting to drink can sit on the beds with silken cushions where you can rub shoulders with players of the Barcelona soccer team. Techno and house music takes over the dancefloor, except on Sundays, its biggest night, devoted to chill out sounds.
