SEX AND THE CITY IN PARIS
It has just been announced that the second Sex and the City movie will be in theaters on the 28th of May 2010. Until then, fans of the series will continue to flock to the four main characters’ favorite Manhattan hotspots on an organized Sex and the City tour or on a self-guided visit to those locations. That has become such a popular Big Apple activity that UCityGuides.com has even created its own extensive Sex and the City hotspots guide. Rumors are already being spread all over the media about possible plots for the second film, including speculation that it just may be set in London. We doubt it will be entirely set across the pond, as New York is an important fifth character in the story, but Sex has in fact left its city in the past, when it spent much of its final two episodes in Paris, and we did see Samantha shopping around Los Angeles in the first movie. We suspect London will probably be the next city to be briefly featured in the Sex and the City world, but New York will certainly continue to be the central setting.
If you’re one of those fans who’ve already done the Big Apple tour and can’t wait until the upcoming film to experience Carrie’s fabulous world, why not explore another part of that Sex and the City universe by going on a tour of the Paris hotspots featured in the series finale? Start by booking your nights at the Plaza Athénée Hotel. That’s where Carrie stayed with her Russian boyfriend Aleksandr and jumped with joy at her sight of the Eiffel Tower from her room’s balcony.
For dinner, get a table at Kong, the restaurant where Carrie met Aleksandr’s ex-wife Juliet. It’s found on the top floor of a department store and offers city views from its glass walls. Be sure to check out the stylish décor, that despite not being to Juliet’s taste, it’s quite fabulous.
As an irresistible shopping city, Paris will force you to at least do some window-shopping, and if you really want to follow Carrie’s footsteps, step inside the DIOR shop on 30 Avenue Montaigne (just be careful not to slip and fall like she did).
Of course Paris is also known as the city of romance so take a special someone or simply go on a solitary stroll over PONT DES ARTS for the romantic views of the city and to recall the final scene where Carrie and Big are seen at night on that pedestrian bridge. The domed building in the background is the Institut de France (The French Institute).
Enjoy the city of light with the satisfaction of knowing that in just over a year from now you’ll probably be following Carrie and Big’s favorite haunts around London. Die-hard fans are already starting their countdown…
