Every month, for the past three years, Budapest has been bringing together a community of contemporary designers to show their creations to the general public. That’s the WAMP, the Hungarian Design Market which has grown to be the most important design event in Budapest. It is held in two different sites depending on the season, with the winter market taking place at Gödör Klub and in the summer months on Erzsébet square.

There is furniture, fashions, accessories, glass, jewelry, and recycled materials in all forms and colors, and all of high quality from over 100 vendors. That has led to a higher demand for design in the everyday life of the city, and both the general public and professionals now have access to national design. Every month concentrates on a different theme, and since last year there is also an annual international design festival by the same organizers which also invites designers from a different country.

If you’re going to be in Budapest this year, be sure to make your dates coincide with the market. The scheduled dates for the rest of the year are July 12, August 16, September 13, October 11, November 15, and the 6th, 13th, and 20th of December, this last month having more than one market which is perfect for Christmas shopping.
