What started as a spontaneous idea in Madrid is now slowly conquering the world. Three friends were having drinks in the Spanish capital when they mentioned that there were no hotels in Madrid (or any other city) that they felt met their needs and those of their friends. That is, a place right in the center of the city where most of the action takes place, with an original decor and personal feel, without the need for extra services that no one really asks for, and all at reasonable prices — because when you’re on a city break, all you need is a cool, clean, place to sleep and have a good breakfast in. Basically that meant a unique, attractive hotel offering comfort, free breakfast until 12PM, and a location from where most of a city can be found. So they opened their own place, Room Mate Mario next to the Royal Theater in Madrid. It was an instant success, and a whole new chain of hotels and urban apartments was born. They’re like staying at a friend’s house filled with character, with a youthful spirit, with different spaces featuring an attractive design, and a welcoming service where guests are essentially treated as roommates.
There are now several Room Mates in Madrid, and the chain has expanded to Barcelona and other Spanish cities, and has even caught major international attention when it took over the QT Hotel in New York (now Room Mate Grace).
