THE VENICE – ISTANBUL LOVE AFFAIR IN ISTANBUL EUROPEAN CAPITAL OF CULTURE 2010
Istanbul is this year’s European Capital of Culture and one of the first exhibitions in the culture-rich calendar for the entire year is “Love by Any Other Name” telling the “love affair” between the cities of Venice and Istanbul during the Ottoman period. The Turkish city (previously known as Constantinople and Byzantium) has had a close diplomatic, commercial, artistic, and military relations with Venice throughout the centuries, and this exhibition tells that story through manuscripts, portraits, and ceramics from major Venetian and Turkish museums.
You can see it in the Sakip Sabanci Museum (part of Sabanci University) until the 28th of this month, and may still catch educational programs and conferences accompanying the exhibition.
