Even when knowing nothing about New York’s IAC (InterActiveCorp) Building, you can tell that it resembles many of Frank Gehry’s famous icons. And it is in fact a Frank Gehry project, although this time he traded bent metal for curved glass. The 10-story building stands by the city’s continuously renovated West Side and is visible from the new High Line “greenway” which has helped make it a Big Apple icon since its completion two years ago.
You may explore the building’s exterior and interior design at the IAC website which just may make you agree with those who’ve considered these to be the world’s most attractive offices.

New York’s iconic Guggenheim Museum will be celebrating its 50th birthday later this year, and has just opened a special exhibition to mark the event. This year is also the 50th anniversary of the death of Frank Lloyd Wright, the building’s architect who died only months before the museum’s official opening. Considered Wright’s masterpiece, New York’s Guggenheim will be showcasing dozens of the architect’s projects in the special Frank Lloyd Wright: From Within Outward exhibition that runs until August 23rd. It’s a collaboration between the Solomon R. Guggenheim Foundation and the Frank Lloyd Wright Foundation, and will include civic and government buildings, performance spaces, and privately commissioned residences, as well as urban projects that were never completed. They’re shown through drawings, models, and digital animations, displayed on the spiraling interior of the museum. The building went through an extensive exterior renovation between 2005 and 2008, and now shines even brighter as seen on these photos taken by UCityGuides. It embodies Wright’s pioneering concepts of space, and remains a cultural and architectural icon:

In our previous Architourist Report we took you to Oscar Niemeyer’s Brasilia, the Brazilian capital that has been nominated for Urban Wonder of the World. For this report we’re still in the same country, and bring you an iconic landmark from the same architect, but this time in Rio de Janeiro. Technically it’s in the city of Niteroi, a suburb overlooking the Marvelous City from across the Guanabara Bay but that is the one true must-see modern marvel during a visit to Rio.

Take a ferry from downtown Rio de Janeiro, walk along the waterfront, and you’ll soon find this spaceship-looking building standing above a cliff. It seems to hover 16 meters high in the air, topped by a 50-meter cupola, and with the three floors of its interior accessed through a snaking red platform from which you slowly admire the surrounding bay and the Sugarloaf Mountain in the distance. It opened in 1996 and is the Niteroi Museum of Contemporary Art, showcasing temporary exhibitions of national artists (painting, sculpture, textiles, and more), although the main attraction is always the white retro-futurist building itself. Check out the museum’s website for what’s going on at the moment, and take a look at the photos below, taken exclusively for UCityGuides. In our next Architourist Report coming up soon, we’ll be in another country, in one of the world’s largest metropolis, and will be highlighting one of the most iconic modern landmarks that is now celebrating an anniversary…
