Budapest is one of the best destinations during the longer summer vacation because it can be combined with so many other cities in central and Eastern Europe. Before or after the Hungarian capital you can easily visit Vienna, Prague, or Berlin, and if you do that this summer you’ll likely find a festival going on.
Lasting 150 days, Zöld Pardon is a summer festival with concerts on two stages every night. It actually starts in spring (this month) and runs until September, with concerts at 8PM and a clubbing atmosphere at 10PM when DJs mix dance, hip hop and R&B to large crowds. Admission costs 400HUF (about 1.5 euros or 2 US dollars), and once inside you can also get cheap drinks and food.
Then, starting on the first of June and until the last day of August you can also catch open-air theater during the Budapest Summer Festival, with performances starting at 8:30PM in Margaret Island, the city’s beautiful protected park. You may check the website for the scheduled performances: eng.szabadter.hu
Also in summer, from July until mid-August, there is “Budafest,” an opera festival that takes place outdoors. You can already check out the list of scheduled performances at the event’s website: www.budafest.hu
And of course, before you go, you can’t miss the ultimate Budapest city guide.

When European cafés became the preferred hangouts of their city’s intellectuals in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, they turned into cultural institutions with ornate, palatial interiors. Many if not most of them remain open today, although the main visitors are now tourists guided by their guidebooks. Those cafés are now essentially museums where coffee and pastries are served at high prices, while others have been turned into full-blown restaurants, and a few still attempt to keep their cultural heritage alive by hosting literary and other cultural events.
The biggest café cities are Paris, Vienna, Venice, and Budapest, where café interiors are at their most sumptuous, but you’ll find some extraordinarily beautiful cafés throughout Europe and even in the big cities of the Americas that emulated the grandiosity of the Old World.
At UCityGuides we’re always looking for what’s new and extraordinary, but also love to spend some time in what the past has done best. So after countless coffees, pastries, calories, and overpriced drinks, we bring you the list of the ten most beautiful cafés in the world: THE WORLD’S 10 MOST BEAUTIFUL CAFÉS

Budapest now has its own Armani Caffé, after Milan, London, Paris, and more than a handful of other fashionable cities. It’s of course found next to the Emporio Armani store, and features a dark, granite interior with two classical stone columns inside the bar. The Art Deco-style furnishings mix well with the mirrored walls, and as you’d expect, there’s a sophisticated ambiance all around. Sit at one of the red silk seats and enjoy a fabulous menu of Italian specialties, although the wines to try should be the Hungarian ones from the well-selected list.
It’s open every day from noon until midnight.

Every month, for the past three years, Budapest has been bringing together a community of contemporary designers to show their creations to the general public. That’s the WAMP, the Hungarian Design Market which has grown to be the most important design event in Budapest. It is held in two different sites depending on the season, with the winter market taking place at Gödör Klub and in the summer months on Erzsébet square.

There is furniture, fashions, accessories, glass, jewelry, and recycled materials in all forms and colors, and all of high quality from over 100 vendors. That has led to a higher demand for design in the everyday life of the city, and both the general public and professionals now have access to national design. Every month concentrates on a different theme, and since last year there is also an annual international design festival by the same organizers which also invites designers from a different country.

If you’re going to be in Budapest this year, be sure to make your dates coincide with the market. The scheduled dates for the rest of the year are July 12, August 16, September 13, October 11, November 15, and the 6th, 13th, and 20th of December, this last month having more than one market which is perfect for Christmas shopping.

Travelers looking for a classic European destination where prices are still affordable are heading East and a favorite is Budapest. An already beautiful city has only become more attractive in the last few years, with the opening of stylish hotels and restaurants in its monumental center. At a time when everyone is looking to save, the Hungarian capital is one of the best choices for this summer’s getaways, and whether you choose budget accommodation or a more pricy hotel, you can still sleep in style. Cheap or chic, these are two top stylish choices in Budapest:

CHEAP: HomePlus Hostel
Budget travelers can stay in bright, private or shared rooms at this colorful hostel in the center of the city. Each space has a different look, mostly in red, blue, or yellow tones, and includes a self-service kitchen and lounge area. Guests also find a convenient laundry service and can stay connected with everyone back home by using the free internet service. From the cool minimalist rooms to the quality of the service, HomePlus Hostel is the ideal choice of budget travelers in Budapest.

CHIC: Lanchid 19 Design Hotel
It’s surrounded by 19th century architecture, but everything inside the Lanchid 19 Hotel is modern design. Unique design pieces were placed around the minimalist rooms, while the moveable glass façade is just one example of the vast use of glass throughout the space. It is also glass that covers the lobby’s floor, revealing ruins of a medieval water tower below. From the large windows of the 45 rooms and 3 suites are views of the city and the Danube. The designer-uniformed staff is welcoming, and can direct you to the restaurant’s lovely garden terrace.
