The last decade has brought some radical changes to the travel industry. From low-cost airlines, to last-minute online booking, to the large number of stylish hostels, to the boutique and design hotel concept. There were even new destinations, with Eastern Europe (particularly Prague and Budapest) becoming one of the most popular city breaks in the world. Even the city break concept is new, with travels now escaping to somewhere else on a long weekend, or on a business trip, and not waiting for a longer summer vacation to go somewhere.
As one decade closes and another one begins, it’s time to wonder how and where we’ll be traveling ten years from now. What can already be predicted is that during the 2000-teens decade, some cities will stand out more than others. They will either host the world’s major events, or will unveil brand-new projects that will capture the attention of the world’s media and travelers.
At UCityGuides.com we’ve taken a look at the calendar and took our insider knowledge of the world’s top cultural cities, and came up with a list of the cities that will most grab the attention of the travel industry. From New York‘s new World Trade Center and Freedom Tower, to a cleaned up Rio de Janeiro for the Olympics, to the emergence of Lisbon as a cultural hotspot, to the rejuvenation of Seville, we give you a preview of what you’ll be excited about visiting in the near future. You’ll discover that some old destinations are new again, and that some often-overlooked cities will no longer be a secret.
For complete details, take a look at the full list of the 10 City Breaks for the Next Decade.

Seville is the perfect November destination. The scorching hot temperatures are over, and the summer crowds are gone. Its southern location means the weather will never be as frightening as elsewhere in Europe, and it’s the perfect opportunity to see its neaby attractions such as a tour of Granada and Cordoba without having to compete for space with the larger crowds.
In addition to those reasons this month is the city’s European Film Festival, starting today and until the 14th of the month. It’s screening European films from the past two years in both competitive and non-competitive sections, while also highlighting Andalusian productions. You can check out the schedule at the official website: Seville European Film Festival.
Also tempting are the city’s hotel prices which have dropped since the summer, offering you a bigger chance of finding a room at the hotel of your choice. We’ve recently highlighted the city’s two best choices for cheap and hip accommodation, but you’ll find more options together with detailed sightseeing information at our Seville city guide.

Found in a 15th century monastery that was then transformed into a porcelain factory in the 19th century, Seville’s Centro Andaluz de Arte Contemporáneo (Andalusian Contemporary Art Center) has a wonderful setting to display modern Spanish and international art from a permanent collection as well as temporary exhibitions. Most of the artists are naturally from Spain, but many of the temporary exhibits are often strong on South American works. The permanent pieces on display date from the late 1950s to the present, and visitors can see it together with the former monastery’s chapels, cloisters, and gardens.
There is also a library with over 26,000 volumes relating to different aspects of contemporary art, and includes close to one hundred periodicals.

Seville doesn’t get the same buzz as other Spanish cities like Bilbao or Valencia, not to mention that of big Madrid and Barcelona. But that southern Iberian city is a must-go not just in a trip to Spain but in a tour of all of Europe — it has some of the continent’s best Mediterranean beaches nearby, as well as the architectural masterpieces that are Granada’s Alhambra and Cordoba’s Great Mosque. The best time to visit is of course the summer and the upcoming months are a perfect time to go, now that the city is no longer just a romantic monument to the past — UCityGuides.com has already highlighted its coolest new restaurant Abades Triana with a special Uward, and now we tell you which are the hottest accommodation choices, whether you’re looking to go cheap or want to splurge a little (but not a lot):

EME FUSION HOTEL
This hip hotel opened last year in the historic center of the city. It’s right next to the ancient cathedral, but the interior is all 21st century. It’s a design hotel with a fabulous rooftop swimming pool where you can overlook the city and enjoy a cocktail before a meal at one of the four gourmet restaurants. At the end of the day you may also recover from hours of sightseeing at the spa or go for a workout at the gym. Rooms come in different sizes but are all stylishly designed. Best of all are the reasonable prices for this type of accommodation. You may book it here: EME Fusion Hotel, Seville

OASIS BACKPACKERS HOSTEL
Budget travelers have a fantastic hostel waiting for them in Seville. It is found in the center of the city in a renovated building to which it moved from its original location. Guests are welcomed by contemporary decor and a wide range of free services, including breakfast, internet, coffee, and tea. Best of all are the city views from the rooftop terrace and the pool to escape the typical Seville summer heat! It’s the best place in the city to meet other young travelers, and staff will point you in the right direction if you need sightseeing information. Check availability and book it here: Oasis Backpackers Hostel, Seville.
