With the exception of Rue du Marché au Charbon and its gay hangouts, there isn't much bar-hopping or clubbing in Brussels. Instead, most nights are spent at the cafes or with a beer at an outdoor terrace on a warmer night. But for cocktails and big-name DJs, these are the places to go:


Belga Queen restaurant, Brussels Belga Queen
It's known as a restaurant but downstairs is club where you'll be served a selection of cocktails and spirits. You also have the choice of Cuban cigars as you listen to jazz, soul, or Latin sounds.

L'Archiduc
A large mixed crowd fills this Art Deco bar during the live jazz nights on weekends. It opens in the afternoon and serves drinks and music until dawn.

MAPPA MUNDO - 2-6 Rue Pont de la Carpe
This stylish bar is a cool hangout on weekend nights for the thirty-something professionals celebrating the end of the week with a beer or cocktail. It can get quite crowded, but we haven't found a better place in Brussels for mojitos or caipirinhas. Mingle with the crowd and enjoy the loud music as you wait for your drinks.

GOUPIL LE FOL - Rue de la Violette 22
A three-story brothel is now this romantic bar. Drink fruit liqueurs to the sound of French music, and admire the vinyl records, nude paintings and landscapes on the walls.

Ultime Atome
Located not too far from the EU headquarters, this classic bar is usually filled with a cosmopolitan crowd chatting in different accents. Go for one of the various beers or order a light snack which includes vegetarian options.

Fuse
This is as close as it gets to a major club in Brussels. Located in the center of the city, it attracts the best DJs and the bigger crowds who are out for some dancing and fun.

Louise Gallery
The trendy, fashion-conscious locals choose this club for their night of dancing to the DJ's techno and house selections. Be sure to dress in style to be allowed in, especially during the special party nights.

Mirano
The place to see and be seen on weekends is this club housed in a former cinema. Nights last until morning (6AM to be exact), with a fashionable crowd moving to the electro-house sounds.
