Drinking and dancing in Budapest |
|
When wondering where to go out at night simply head in the direction of St. Stephan's Basilica and you'll find the city's latest hotspots. Cafes and restaurants in classic, retro, or modern styles are located there, and so are some of the hippest hangouts for drinks at night. Other places to head to are LISZT FERENC TER and RADAY UTCA, a square and a street known for their bars. Budapestans like to go out after dinner at a restaurant, and their city's bars and clubs are following international trends in ambience and music choices. Join them at one of the following places:
Domby
A stylish dark interior sets the mood for a night of cocktail-sipping. They're the best in Budapest, and a sophisticated crowd loves them. The soundtrack adds to the chill out atmosphere.
Ba Bar
Not far from Keleti station, this is a stylishly decorated bar for a cocktail or a light meal. The chill out space and music makes it good place to lounge.
Picasso Point
The local youth likes to hang out at this café-bar located in the city's theatre district. It is a spacious, welcoming place good for a few drinks, although the DJs in the basement at night also attract those looking to dance. Also popular are the karaoke nights, while food is also served.
Szimpla Kert
A hotspot for live music and alternative events, this huge space uses old furnishings to tell you that this is no ordinary place. Part of it serves as a cinema, screening alternative movies almost every day, although the main draws here are the cheap drinks and the refreshing vibe.
E-Klub
A major rock music club in the 70s and 80s, this club was transformed in 1998 into a more stylish club where the sounds were also changed to dance music. Another makeover took place in 2005, and now offers four bars, a VIP garden section, and two dancefloors which get packed every major weekend dance party.
A38
If things get boring on land, hop on this boat and get ready for a floating dance party. Anchored on the Buda side of the Petofi Bridge, this clubbing boat became one of the hippest nightlife attractions in Budapest as soon as it opened. While some of its allure has diminished, it's still a happening hotspot, especially in good weather, when the terrace is open. The younger generation shows up for the DJ sounds, while an older crowd simply comes for dinner on the Danube followed by live music in the concert hall. What everyone gets to share are the spectacular river views.
Dokk Club
This place is big. We mean big in size, big in popularity, and big on music. Often hosting visiting international DJs, this lounge and club is for lovers of trance and house, and for those who enjoy hedonistic after-parties. It's open on weekends only.
White Heaven
Not only is White Heaven one of the trendiest places to eat in Budapest, it's also one of its most striking nightlife options. A young and vibrant atmosphere created by a hip crowd makes it the place to be in the city for a late-night drink.
Godorklub
And now for something completely different... This music and art lounge showcases everything from live music to festivals to exhibitions. The crowd is just as diverse, coming here for the always-different, always-fun nights.
