Garden Promenade Cafe at the Marriott
The Marriott hotel offers this garden terrace to both guests and non-guests looking for a comfortable place to enjoy a drink in a relaxed but sophisticated atmosphere. It has a good selection of wines and beer, and you can also have a meal here, although you should be prepared to pay above-average prices.

After Eight
Live music and a good selection of drinks have made this club one of the most popular hangouts in Cairo. The music is an eclectic mix of jazz to classic pop to the latest hits, while the crowds are diverse in age and style.

BULL'S EYE - 32 Sharia Jeddah, Doqqi
This popular English pub imitation is a casual, unpretentious stop for a drink on those nights when you just don't feel like clubbing. You'll be surrounded by as many expats as Egyptians, who get together once a week for a night of karaoke or simply chatting over drinks.

Cairo Jazz Club
Don't attempt to go by yourself because only couples are allowed in. It's a restaurant, a bar, and a nightclub where you can catch live music on most nights. The food is simple but good, much of it vegetarian.

LIBRARY BAR at the Four Seasons First Residence Hotel
A cigar bar and an intimate space await you at this hotel bar overlooking the Nile. There are both alcoholic and non-alcoholic cocktails while the cigars are from Cuba and the Dominican Republic. If you stay long and get hungry, there is a limited menu that includes sushi.

Rithmo at the InterContinental Semiramis
A bar to see and be seen, Rithmo has a Moorish-style décor together with some plush armchairs where you sit to enjoy a drink selected among the various choices at the bar. From the open kitchen you can also have snacky food which helps in making you stay a little longer into the night.

Windsor Bar at the Windsor Hotel
This low-key hotel bar actually used to be at the very top of nightlife choices in Cairo. It has lost much of its status but remains something of a Cairo institution, a pleasant stop for a drink as you listen to jazz. The eccentric clientele is a mix of hotel guests and a few older locals who still remember this place when its furnishings were in style.

LA BODEGA - - 157 26th of July St.
We recommend it as a restaurant but also as a lounge for cocktails as you rub shoulders with famous local faces. The decoration is Belle Epoque, but the ambience is hip and contemporary.

ABSOLUTE - Corniche el-Nil, Bulaq
It's not always easy getting in, as the staff at the door only allows the young and beautiful to go inside and enjoy the large dancefloor and its DJ music. Those not in the mood for dancing can simply go for drinks or choose to have the sushi.

EL MOROCCO - Blue Nile Boat, 9A Saraya al-Gezira, Zamalek
If you're in your 20s or 30s, you'll want to join the local hipsters of the same age who choose this floating restaurant/club to hang out at night. There is always a different DJ but all of them choose tracks to get you moving or as an upbeat sountrack for chatting or smoking a shisha.

L'AUBERGINE - 5 Sayyed El Bakry, Zamalek
Expacts make up the largest part of the crowd at this minimalist bar, a hip hangout to where the sexiest clothing is worn to move to the latest DJ mixes.

LATEX at the Nile Hotel
The club at the Nile Hotel (formerly The Nile Hilton) has been a favorite in the city even before its most recent incarnation (it used to be "Jackie's" before it became "Latex"). National and international DJs mix house with Arab dance-pop, inviting the fashionable crowds to get on the dancefloor while others choose to sit at the low-lit bar for the special cocktails.
