The great bazaars and souks from ancient times are now replaced by state-of-the-art malls such as Kanyon with almost 200 shops of international and Turkish brands. But of course the GRAND BAZAAR is still here, although it's more of a tourist's sightseeing experience than a shopping destination. Look for a souvenir around its covered alleys, browsing through carpets, spices, fabrics, or jewelry, while for products you're more familiar with, head to the NISANTASI district. Its ABDI IPEKCI STREET is where the city's well-heeled population goes for their luxury brands, while the neighborhood's Sasaa concept store is a favorite stop for fashion, cosmetics, and homewares.
Where both tourists and locals shop together is on ISTIKLAL CADDESI, a pedestrian street known for its shops and cafes. It's a cosmopolitan street that should not be missed by anyone visiting the city, going from Taksim Square to the iconic Galata Tower.

ONE-STOP SHOPPING

Beymen shop, Istanbul Beymen
Looking for some quality one-stop-shopping? This is it. It's an upscale department store where designer fashion lives, but don't expect too many bargains - many of the international labels are often more expensive here after the import taxes. You'll find it in several locations around the city, but the best one is in Nisantasi.

LOCAL STYLES

Arzu Kaprol
Located in the city's most fashionable shopping street, Turkish fashion designer Arzu Kaprol's boutique sells her couture line and collections of simply cut designs.

LOCAL PRODUCTS

Aisha
Former actress Ayse Tolga now offers her range of high-quality natural Turkish beauty products, from bath oils to body creams.

A La Turca
Arguably Istanbul's most interesting shop, this showroom is like a treasure chest of Ottoman and Anatolian antiques. There are paintings, manuscripts, carpets, and ceramics that both the serious collector and the common shopper finds irresistible.

SPECIAL DESIGNS

MUDO - 149 Tesvikiye Caddesi
It all started as small gift shop in the 1960s but is now one of Istanbul's most successful design chains. There are several chains around the city (choose the one in Nisantasi), where you'll find reasonably-priced clothing and furniture.

Addresistanbul
Istanbul's upper middle class does its homeware design shopping at this mini mall with dozens of international and Turkish brands. It's a well designed space and a much better experience than the typical bland malls.

Haaz
It has its own designs but this is also a great place for homeware by international designers. The gallery is at Sun Plaza, Dereboyu Sokak 24/-5

Halide D
She's decorated hotels, private homes and offices, and with her designs presented in national and international exhibitions, Halide Didem is one of Turkey's top designers. Her outlet in Istanbul shows her work along with those of other young designers, with almost everything combining traditional and contemporary materials and colors.
