Drinking and dancing in Marrakech |
|
Marrakech is North African's nightlife capital, and you'll encounter young hip Europeans mixed with wealthier Moroccans at any of the city's major bars and clubs. While you should pass by Jemaa El Fna Square at night when it becomes a true spectacle, all of the action really takes place outside the medina walls. The scene got wilder when Pacha opened up in the city, but its competitors still get packed with similar crowds, especially Le Comptoir Darna and Theatro which remain two of the most glamorous hotspots in the city.
While the club scene is fickle in Marrakech and the hottest addresses can become unpopular from one day to the next, if you stick to the most established places listed below, you'll likely experience the best a Marrakech night has to offer.
Theatro
Those who feel like dancin' know this is always one of the city's best options. Disco balls hang from the ceiling, scantily clad locals show off their moves, and high-decibel dance music together with performers on stage provide hours of entertainment.
Pacha Marrakech
Ibiza has been transplanted in Marrakech, and just like its sister club in that Spanish party island, Marrakech's Pacha is restaurant (Moroccan and international fusion), bar, and club all in one space. The big name DJs often brought here means that the biggest parties in Morocco are found at Pacha.
Le Comptoir Darna
Saturdays nights are Comptoir Darna nights in a gorgeous Arabian setting created for Western tastes. The most fashionable locals and tourists who know where to go fill the restaurant for its world cuisine, and later enjoy a number of expensive drinks at the bar as electro-Arab-dance beats play in the background.
LE DIAMANT NOIR - Pl. de la Liberté, Guéliz
A local favorite, this club is popular with tourists as well. You'll see all kinds of people, from businessmen ending their trip to Marrakech to expats to local rich kids. Observe the dancefloor from the balconies or get a table by buying a bottle.
Al'Anbar
A mixture of Asia and North Africa, this restaurant and lounge with over-the-top décor is also a glitzy club with loud music forcing you to get on the dancefloor. It has its own CDs of oriental sounds in another attempt to recreate the famous Buddha Mar in Morocco.
Paradise
Located inside the Hotel Mansour Eddahbi, this club attracts an even number of visitors and locals who dance to the electro and Oriental mixes. Not as hot as other similar clubs in the city, but worth checking out for a North Africa-meets-West night.
