COOL STYLES

Viktor & Rolf
This must-see store is one of the most distinctive shopping experiences you'll have anywhere. The Dutch duo Viktor Horsting and Rolf Snoeren turned their signature boutique upside down, so the ceiling is the floor, the chandeliers look like fountains, and the welcome mat is on the oak floor ceiling. It manages not to look like a tacky gimmick, and instead there's the feeling of a sense of humor in a well-designed space. After looking at that, the clothing gets all the attention, from women's ready-to-wear, shoes, and fragrances, to menswear.

10 Corso Como
An imaginative selection of men's and women's fashion labels and accessories, homewares, and fragrances are just some things you'll find in this vast space that also includes a bookshop, a café-restaurant, and an art gallery. Everything is thoughtfully presented, and major names' items in clothing, furnishings, and handbags are not cheap, but very much worth the splurge.

Antonia
This elegant boutique is where Antonia Giacinti showcases her selection of fashion, accessories, and shoes by all the desirable labels, from Valentino to Marc Jacobs, but do also check out some of the new names too.

Alfonso Garlando
A local favorite, you'll find sexy shoes and boots in different styles and colors at this shop that's been making Milanese ladies happy for three decades.

Aspesi
This Milan institution should not be missed if you think you'd like chic sportswear. The huge shop includes a café and a courtyard for after you browse through the signature nylon outerwear, and Lawrence Steele-designed womenswear.

Laura Urbinati
Laura Urbinati designs and produces her own line of lingerie and swimwear, and her Milan shop is tiny but very much worth a look. She is known for well cut pieces, great shapes, colors, and prints, all worth the prices.

COOL DESIGNS

Tingo Design Gallery
Original works by Angelo Mangiarotti, Ugo La Pietra, Andrea Branzi, and Lino Sabattini, among others are displayed at this gallery that sells rare, collectable furniture no longer in production. The objects and lighting from Mangiarotti are especially worthy of a look.

Galleria MK
There are several galleries down Via Maroncelli, but the most interesting is Galleria M.K. It specializes in collectable lightling (mainly from Italy), with a good selection from the 1950s, although there's a range from the 1930s to the 1980s.

È De Padova
There are many good furniture shops in Milan. È De Padova is the one you can't miss. It presents cutting-edge design furniture in a showroom inside an old palazzo that offers great views of the center of the city from the fifth floor. Besides the furniture, look for designer jewelry and innovative products like colorful coat hangers by Charles Ray Eames.

Danese
For design objects from the mid-20th century head to this shop that stocks desirable pieces by Enzo Mari, Bruno Murani, and others, including some originals you won't find anywhere else.

LOCAL FLAVORS

Peck shop in Milan Peck
If you visit only one gourmet shop in Milan, this is it. It's one of the best in Italy, with the main shop located close to the Duomo. It's been a gastronomic temple since 1883, selling mountains of cheese, specialty pasta sauces, cold cuts, olive oils, wine vintages from around the world, bread, and cakes. Upstairs, the tearoom, café, and wine bar are useful for a rest from shopping.

La Baita del Formaggio
For half a century this shop has been the destination for hundreds of different cheeses. Choose the specialty rosemary-flavored Lariano speziato, made with medium-soft cow milk.

Habits Culti
Browse through a good selection of homewares and flowers, but best of all if coming here for the chocolate shop. You'll be tempted into buying one of the mouth-watering creations there, but be sure to also not miss the other sweets, tisanes, teas, and coffees.

Giovanni Galli
This old-fashioned shop is a traditional place where wooden cabinets display chocolates and a number of fresh and sweet delights. It's all made in the house, and what you see is only available here.

Lula Cioccolato
Just when you thought there couldn't be another outstanding chocolatier in Milan, here it is. The great artisan chocolates from Italy and France tempt you when you walk in, but also consider Lula's own creations whose boxes come covered in vintage fabrics from around the world. The tiny shop's décor is equally vintage.
