While Paris' nightlife may seem more sedate than in London or New York, it is because Parisiens spend some extra time inside the restaurants rather than going straight into to the clubs. The Latin Quarter, Marais, and St. Germain are where most of the nightlife is happening, with the Techno Parade that takes place every September bringing the most dancing to the streets.

Queen club in Paris Queen and Redlight are where you'll find the most mainstream sounds and crowds indoors (both are also big gay magnets), while the trendiest street at night is RUE OBERKAMPF. It is home to several hip bars, clubs, and restaurants -- CAFE CHARBON at number 109 has become quite a legendary bar, featuring leather booths, chandeliers, and large mirrors. It can get quite crowded at weekends, as this is one of the favorites among the young.

Down the same street you'll find Nouveau Casino, a live music club with a large bar and dancefloor. Prince Albert of Monaco and French-language film stars such as Vincent Cassel and Mathieu Kassovitz have been spotted here, so you know that this place is it.

Also a meeting point for stars, BAR DU PLAZA ATHENEE is a sophisticated space with Louis XVI chairs, glass-covered walls, and a bar resembling an iceberg.
The fashion set also currently adores Le Paris Paris. It's a fun, rather 80s-esque club with an old-style cabaret ambience that due to the tiny space, is very selective of who gets through the door. It is from the same owners of Le Baron, a fun club sometimes blasting rock, other times cutting-edge dance tracks. Around its neon dancefloor are red walls and plush velvet couches.

Closer to the Champs Elysees you'll find Mood. It's a very attractive lounge, as is Le MadaM with its cool decor and clientele. But both can't match the décor of VIP Room, a LED lights-filled club serving some quite expensive cocktails -- but that's the price to pay when you want to experience one of Paris' coolest nightspots.

Please note that Paris clubs don't really get going until 2AM, with most people finishing their evening at an 'after' party on Sunday morning. If you're curious about the famous MOULIN ROGUE cabaret experience, you may head there or to Le Lido, a large, expensive and classy cabaret. Not only does it have a high-tech art nouveau hall, but also serves a menu by star chef Paul Bocuse.
