STYLE

Le A Hotel, Paris Nineteenth century from outside, but completely futuristic once you step indoors (there are no keys but a fingerprint ID system to allow you into your room), Murano Urban Resort also has a funky bar and a rejuvenating spa. What is an urban resort, you ask? Such a concept seems to have just been invented by this hotel. The same team has also come up with Kube (entered through an illuminated glass cube), which was built to make you feel like you're in a club, or as the general manager puts it, at "a bed and bar." The Ice Kube bar (chilled at -5C) is one of the city's trendy spots.
Hotel Sezz is one of the most-stunningly-designed modern hotels in Paris. It invites you to feel at home, starting with the check-in at the bar to avoid the formalities of a reception desk. Designed by a former protégé of Pilippe Starck, it is located in a residential area within walking distance of the Eiffel Tower. To add to that romantic setting is the somewhat retro and very chic décor in the bedrooms, a Jacuzzi and massage room downstairs, and a champagne bar.
Another tastefully modern design-boutique hotel is the marvellous Le A. It is a creation of interior-architect Frédéric Méchiche and artist Fabrice Hybert, who says that "this place is not to sleep, it is to dream." To make that point are the uniquely-decorated rooms featuring suspended lights, and a lounge area that includes a bar and a library filled with books about art.
Hotel Therese is located in an 18th century townhouse tastefully decorated in classic contemporary style. It is a great value, and not just due to the location (within walking distance from thee Opéra and the Louvre). The rooms are quiet and some have sweeping views.
The location is also one of the best attractions of Bel Ami. Situated by the historic Saint Germain cafes, this is one of the first design hotels in Paris. The rooms have an ultra-modern minimalist style and there is also a spa and a gym.
Hotel de Sers is set in a grand 19th century building but its 52 rooms and six suites are filled with contemporary design. The restaurant serves French cuisine mixed with Asian flavors, which can then be followed by a relaxing break in the winter garden and courtyard.
Hôtel Keppler is a creation of designer Pierre-Yves Rochon, a sophisticated mansion hotel next to the Champs Elysees. It includes a restaurant and a cosy bar with a winter garden, as well as a sauna and fitness room. Some of the bedrooms on the top floors have a balcony or a terrace overlooking the city and the Eiffel Tower.
Renovated in 2007 by famous designer Christian Lacroix, Bellechasse Saint-Germain offers the perfect setting for a Paris visit, next to Musée d'Orsay and close to the Saint Germain des Prés quarter. The colorful (and very original) rooms are quite spectacular, and could easily win a "most artistic hotel rooms" award...
Located by the elegant Marais district, Standard Design Hotel is also tastefully decorated in attractive modern design.
Banville Hôtel maintains a 1930s charm but offers the latest modern design and comfort. The location close to the Triumphal Arch is another plus, as are the nostalgic ambiance and the piano bar with live music in the evenings.
The very contemporary Abba Montparnasse is located in the Montparnasse district with the Luxembourg gardens not too far away. With an excellent price/quality value, it is part of the Abba hotels chain.
Simple elegance with mostly black, white, and wood tones make 9Hotel a good choice if you enjoy a refined space without much of the clutter that you sometimes find in the more luxurious hotel rooms. Paris' famous opera and Galeries Lafayette are nearby.
Hotel Duret is not far from the Champs Elysees and offers contemporary-designed rooms in pleasing colors and a quiet environment. A gourmet buffet breakfast completes the refined and welcoming service.
In late 2008 Paris became home to another Philippe Starck-designed hotel. Mama Shelter was created by the co-founders of Club Med and offers modern features such as rooms equipped with iMacs working as TVs, in addition to well-designed restaurants and common areas. Most of the rooms are not very big, but you'll find everything you need for a super-comfortable stay.
Architect and designer Bruno Borrione created Le Placide, s small boutique hotel with a funky look made up of wallpapered bedrooms, designer wastepaper bins, and state-of-the-art plasma TVs.
Mon Hotel is an intimate and stylish boutique hotel in a beautiful townhouse by the Champs-Elysees and the Triumphal Arch. It includes a bar-lounge and a selection of artworks by Claudia Mojica Sorbac.
Situated next to Joel Rebuchon's Atelie, Hotel Montalembert is one of Paris' first boutique hotels in the Saint Germain de Pres district, just steps from the Musée d'Orsay. This warm, chic hotel features both classic and minimalist rooms, with an eclectic mix of Louis Philippe antiques and contemporary pieces.
Villathena's façade is traditional French, but behind those walls is a very contemporary interior design. Opened in 2007 not far from the Opera and the Louvre, if has 43 modern rooms providing a warm and comfortable stay.
Le Dokhan's's is part of the Radisson SAS chain but stands out as a unique luxury hotel in Paris. Its neo-classic décor conveys a feeling of intimacy, making it a relatively inexpensive luxury option for a romantic getaway.

CHARM

Located in the Marais area, Villa Mazarin offers a charming service and a Neo-Imperial style, with every room featuring a different theme and color. If you're looking to stay in this area, this is the perfect choice.
Pershing Hall Paris exudes Parisian glamour in surroundings designed by Andrée Putman. The Champs Elysées and Avenue Montaigne are a short walk away, while the patio lounge is a good place for an afternoon tea. At night, a DJ spins a variety of sounds there, or you can opt for the services of the spa.
The Eiffel Tower is just a short walk away from Villa Glamour, a romantic 19th century mansion filled with charm and character. The intimate rooms are decorated in an old Parisian style, and the breakfast is served in a courtyard when weather permits.
The opulent Villa Royale faces Montmartre and is within walking distance from the famous Moulin Rouge. Maybe inspired by that, each room has a certain theatrical or artistic décor (with a certain over the top rococo style), and is named after a glamorous celebrity such as Catherine Deneuve and Naomi Campbell. Some of them offer stunning views of the Sacre Coeur.
Inaugurated by Napoleon III who called it "a palace of the people," Hôtel du Louvre features Belle Epoque décor and a high standard of service. It also includes a fitness and a business center.
Located in the heart of the artistic Marais district, Les Jardins Du Marais Hotel is made up of nine historical buildings (one of them Gustave Eiffel's old workshop) around a spacious courtyard with private terraces. Renovated with decoration by from Stark and Swarowski, all of the rooms enjoy a view of the courtyard garden and there is also a bar and fitness center.

SPLURGE

Historic L'Hotel provides a complete luxurious experience in a fabulous Saint-Germain-des-Prés location. It is famed as the place where Oscar Wilde died, and each room is different, with splendid period decoration. Wilde's room was the "Victoriana," but another one to check out is the Art Deco "Mistinguett." The underground cellar now houses a sauna offering massages and thermal baths.
The prestigious Villa d'Estrées only has 10 rooms, each elegantly furnished in 2nd Empire style, managing to be both modern and romantic. All of them are spacious with contemporary equipment.
Hôtel des Grands Hommes is the former home of André Breton (father of the Surrealists). There are stunning views of the Pantheon from this lovely 18th century building. The rooms are in classic Empire-style.
Awarded with a maximum of three U_Stars, Hotel Plaza Athenee is a truly Parisian experience, a luxury hotel filled with an elegant décor and offering city views from its suites.
