When the Czech Republic became part of the European Union in 2004, Prague's restaurants improved dramatically. A number of international cuisines were offered for the first time in the city, and today you'll find a variety of dining options. Together with the international flavors, the upmarket restaurants also list gourmet interpretations of classic Czech dishes, often presented in beautifully-decorated spaces or in locations offering fine city views.
All of that is to be experienced at the end of the day that should begin with coffee and cake at one of the city's grand old cafés.
Cafe Savoy
The neo-Renaissance ceilings of this café recall the days when this space was part of a department store. It is one of the most charming places in the city for breakfast, with wonderful pastries served at your table under ornate chandeliers.
Grand Café Orient
For your daily dose of tea, there's no better place than this café set in a Cubist landmark. Also worth trying are the pancakes (either sweet or salty), but there are also good salads and sandwiches available on the menu.
Cukrkávalimonáda
Pastries, cakes, and salads are served throughout the day at this hip café-restaurant with a simple but interesting interior with floral patterns on the ceiling and walls. The menu on the blackboard also lists pancakes and pastas, but the best reason to pass by is for the hot 70% melted dark chocolate.
Kampa Park
Dine with the best views of Charles Bridge at this restaurant whose privileged location has attracted celebrities (Matt Damon reportedly was one of them) and those who simply enjoy good food in special settings. The dining space is in different terraces where you'll be able to choose from the seafood-rich menu.
La Perle
The 7th floor of the landmark Rasin Building is home to this French restaurant with a stylish all-white interior. Sit by a window and observe the city's skyline.
V Zatisi
The refined ambience of this restaurant has made it one of the most popular in the city. It has four distinctive rooms, with one of them having a wall of books laid horizontally. It recalls the time when it was a student club before it became a great option for Czech and international cuisine.
Francouzska Restaurace
With stunning art nouveau interiors, this French restaurant in the Municipal House has one of the most beautiful dining areas in Prague. While the menu lists a few European classics, it also includes Czech specialties.
Aromi
The dining rooms lined with exposed brick get filled each day with a discerning clientele looking for the best of Italian cuisine at this restaurant. The friendly staff recommends the best wine to go with your menu selection, as sitting next to you just may be a prominent politician or an informal group of college students.
Restaurant Pravda
A sophisticated clientele loves the international cuisine and the drinks at this elegantly-designed restaurant. The menu draws inspiration from around the world, with particularly strong Asian flavors.
Radost FX
This was one of our most pleasant surprises anywhere in the world. Who would have thought that a vegetarian restaurant part of a club would offer some of the best food in town? It's all reasonably priced, with the serving portions being more than reasonable, served in a cosy space.
Le Terroir
Fine wines and fine cuisine along with fine cheese are what makes Le Terroir one of Prague's most loved restaurants, also offering open-air sitting in the patio during the good-weather months.
Bellevue
Known for its views to Prague Castle, this restaurant always appears at the top of dining choices in Prague. The sophisticated French nouvelle cuisine menu includes seafood, meat, and pasta dishes, along with some seasonal recipes. The desserts are another highlight, served by an efficient staff.
