Drinking and dancing in the city |
|
Tel Aviv is home to some of the hottest clubs in the Middle East and that's where most young Tel Avivians end their days. There are always beachside dance parties in the summer and Euro- or NY-style megaclubs in winter. A night out starts at sunset, when the beach bars in Jaffa or along the shore in the center are the first stops for a drink. Others head to the café-bars on Nahalat Binyamin St. After dinner it's time to move on to the bars down Lilienblum St. or Rothschild Blvd. before taking a taxi to a club, most of them found at the Old Port. Those with energy left, burn it off at an after-party or at the beaches where it all started.
We offer a few suggestions for drinking and dancing in the city but do note that the hottest bars and clubs come and go all the time. Check to confirm that these places are still open when you're in town, as doors could be closing as you read this.
HAOMAN 17 - 88 Abarbanel
Haoman 17 was Jerusalem's most famous club for over a decade but moved to Tel Aviv in 2005. The newer version is much bigger and regularly welcomes international DJs to its parties. The crowds put on their best clubbing fashions and enjoy sushi at the bar, or dance in a space decorated with waterfalls, palm trees, and glass walls.
TLV - Old Port
This club (one of Tel Aviv's most popular) uses the city's airport code in its name, but is located by the city's Old Port. The state-of-the-art lighting and sound energize the crowds who show up to party until dawn as famous DJs (Tiesto and Paul Oakenfold are just two who've been guests here) spin the best of electronic music. It also hosts special nights such as gay and lesbian parties, and there are long lines at the door on most weekend nights.
Barzilay Club
Ever since it opened in 2004, this club has been one of the edgiest and alternative choices when it comes to music and entertainment. Although it's no longer at its original location, its current home on 13 HaRechev Street continues to present live acts and major DJs.
Velvet
Aiming for a more sophisticated crowd, this restaurant-lounge-club promises dining and dancing in an elegant space where the sounds are mostly electronic and house music.
VOX - 2 Yagea Kapaym St.
This trendy club is the place to meet new people as you drink and dance on its several levels. There are themed nights, including a weekly gay party.
THE DOME - 3 Hatzfira St.
With one of the biggest dancefloors in the city, the Dome gets packed on weekends. A chill-out area provides an escape from the crowds.
