The Best Vienna SHOPPING
The city's elegant shops and shopping streets

Vienna's elegant shops are not for those looking for bargains. But you'll love shopping in this city if you like top-quality products, especially interior design. Those shops are scattered around the city, while for the high street fashions everyone heads to MARIAHILFER STRASSE, the busiest shopping street in Vienna. Big crowds are also found in KÄRNTNER STRASSE, home to more expensive shops but also higher quality.

Unmissable for anyone is the NASCHMARKT, the city's largest and most famous market mixing fruits, vegetables, and local and international specialties.

For one-stop shopping head to Ringstrassen Galerien, a rather expensive shopping center with designer clothes and gourmet products. For cheaper and middle-of-the-range labels the Gerngross department store is the place to go. Most popular of all is the Steffl located in the center of the city. This department store has most of the designer names you can think of, but also home décor, cosmetics, fragrances, and great views from the top floor.

PERSONAL STYLE
Çombinat shop, Vienna Çombinat
Located in the MuseumsQuartier, this shop has collections from several young designers who use original materials to create their urban designs, including some sporty but elegant fashions.

Knize
This Adolf Loos masterpiece is an elegant shop where clothing has been custom-made since 1858. It claims to be the world's first menswear label, and in 1924 it launched the world's first fragrance for men. Today it continues to offer the finest suits for men but also has a women's section and ready-to-wear collection.

PERSONAL SPACE
Park
This concept store covers two floors with an all-white contemporary design. It offers fashion, accessories, books, and design magazines, many of them exclusive or rare items. Many of the works are by young, little-known designers who you may be hearing about in the future.

Song
The latest works by both young designers and more established names are found at this chic shop with a minimalist space. The avant-garde fashion is displayed in an industrial interior using metal elements and natural light from a glass roof. Surprisingly enough you can find some good bargains on occasion.

Pregenzer
Owner Jutta Pregenzer has been working on her own designs for close to three decades and sells them at this shop that also stocks chic European fashion brands. The best selling item has to be Pregenzer's own colorful lodens.

Lobmeyr
Established in 1823, Lobmeyr produces crystal, glassware, tableware, ornaments, and light design. Contemporary designers and artists often create some cool pieces here, but it's likely to be the black-line Josef Hoffmann drinking set that remains the most admired work.

Das Moebel
It's a gallery, a café, but also a showroom with contemporary European furniture. The displays change twice a year, and you'll also see them at the café for an idea of their effect if you decide to make a purchase.

Das Kuns Werk
If you're passionate about 20th century design, don't miss this shop. There is furniture from all the way back to 1900, with works by Josef Hoffman, Adolf Loos, and other famous designers.

Gatto Möbel
Check out the Art deco-inspired creations at this shop, including retro furniture and handmade handbags, wallets, and cell phone cases.

Mak Design Shop
The Museum of Applied Arts' shop is a showcase for Austrian and Central European rising stars in the design and architecture world. There are fashions, handbags, and objects for the home, all in unique forms and styles that you won't find anywhere else.

PERSONAL TASTE
Xocolat
You don't have to be a chocolate lover to love this shop. Its aromatic space is filled with dozens of varieties of beautifully-presented chocolates, all handmade and all authentic works of art. Want to know more about chocolate around the world? Pick up one of the books on the subject.

Julius Meinl am Graben
This gets our vote for the best gourmet shop in town. It has a great selection of wines, coffee, and chocolates, all often displayed in the beautifully decorated window.
