The Best Zurich BARS and CLUBS
Zurich nightlife guide
Proof that Zurich is not just all business is the city's nightlife. If you still think of it as a dull banking capital you have not gone out at night. This is actually a vibrant, fashion-conscious, and yes, affluent place with sophisticated and fun hotspots for dinner and beyond.
The left bank of the Limmat River is where most of the bars are found, while new clubs keep opening up around the city.
It currently has a huge number of bars and warehouse clubs that keep the party going for as long as people can take it. So start the night with a drink at a more laid-back bar to prepare yourself for all-night clubbing starting at midnight when most of the major clubs open their doors. With so many choices, we tell you which ones are worth considering:
0815
This is not just a place for the night time, but also a destination for your morning coffee and a light lunch. It serves international cuisine and carefully selected wines in a very stylish but laid back space. Be sure to pass by at night when a live DJ spins electronic, jazz, soul, and Latin sounds.
Labor Bar
This retro-chic club has been used as a set for a TV show and that has caught the attention of the city's hippest crowds. Everyone dresses their best and arrives here for a night of drinks and chatting before hitting the dancefloor.
Club Diagonal
This classy club is a now a legendary place after 4 decades as a meeting place for the city's high society. It lets very few people in, so if you can make it inside you'll rarely find it crowded, except when there are exclusive parties with major international DJs.
Club Indochine
We vote Indochine the club with the best cocktails in Zurich. They're served at the bar, the place to head to whether or not you have dinner at the restaurant. The kitchen cooks up a fusion of Asian and French food, while chill-sounds and jazz set the mood throughout the space. The dancefloor opens later at night when major DJs take over the soundtrack.
Taos Lounge
This attractive restaurant-bar-lounge-club is one of those places where you can stay for hours through the night. It's a stylish place with a beautiful garden and an extraordinary ambience helped by a rich Asian décor (sculptures, paintings, and ornaments). The food served at the restaurant is also Asian-inspired fused with European cuisines.
Hive
World-renowned DJs and live bands often perform at this hip club where a mixed crowd knows they'll always spend the entire night on the dancefloor. To catch their breath they take a break for a cocktail, but anyone coming here knows that it's all about the (electro, house, drum'n'bass) music.
Valmann Bar
You'll probably think that the thirty-somethings at this upscale but relaxed bar all know each other. And you'll probably be right. They meet at this bar with an exceptional interior of dark colors, plush armchairs, and dim lighting, and chat to the sounds of jazz, chill-out, and Europop songs.
Saint Germain
The location could not be better. It's found on Bahnhofstrasse, the city's main avenue, and hosts some of the hottest club nights in the city. Top international DJs are often the stars of the night, and its afterparties have become legendary. At the restaurant you'll be served a combination of Mediterranean and Asian creations (meaning lots of sushi here) right before the place turns into the club. The sexy, exquisite interior includes a VIP lounge.
Q Club
For the pure clubbing experience, head to the Q. It's one of the most famous clubs in the city, with several DJs in one night mixing the electronic sounds for the vibrant crowds to join the professional dancers on and by the dancefloor. The dance shows are accompanied by multimedia installations by live VJs.
Rohstofflager
Fans of techno and alternative dance music which want to choose this club. It's a former warehouse with enough space for a couple of thousand of people to dance and drink to the beats.
Tonimolkerei
Housed in a former factory, this club offers plenty of space to enjoy its cutting-edge electronic sounds mixed with 80s and electro-pop. It's one of the coolest, most laid-back clubs in Zurich, and includes a huge bar.
Supermarket
The Zürich-West quarter is now one of the trendiest spots for a night out on the town, and this club is one of its best and most popular choices. Clubbers party to techno, house, and electro, often mixed by top international DJs.
Kaufleuten
This theatrical restaurant-bar-club takes over two floors and has a handful of bars to grab a drink before moving to one of the cushioned chairs and people-watch. If you decide to eat here, expect an eclectic menu with both European and Asian dishes.
